Karnage Records

Hardcore label since 1998

Our story

The Karnage Records label grew out of the Fraktal concept sound system.

Fraktal was founded in 1994 by Thanos, Matt and Maniak in the south-west of France. Primarily active in the free party scene, they organise their parties in collaboration with Praxis, Stormcore and other activists of the moment. Fraktal is made up of around twenty people: musicians (No Name, Mouse, Maniak, Joël Giraldou), DJs (Thanos, Matt, Gobelin, Gyl, Eclypse, THX), graphic designers (Egos, Matt), organisers, technicians, etc...
Combining organisation and musical production, the sound system has produced two vinyl records by Mouse, Armagued nad and with the participation of Praxis and Stormcore (Mark). Early activists, they contributed articles to underground fanzines denouncing the marginalisation of techno artists and free parties.

After a few years of struggle, the sound system split up and each created his own label and developed his own career. Karnage Records was founded by Dj Thanos and, ever on the move and in search of influence, parties have been organised in South America and all over Europe since the 2000s, giving Karnage a privileged place in the world hardcore scene.

After 19 years in business, Karnage Records has forged links with various Belgian and Dutch labels. The label also works closely with Eastern Europe and South America, organising events in Bogotá and Prague.

In the 2000s, the label set up its first indoor events at Bikini, the ‘Lost Island’ nights. After a third edition that drew 4,000 people to a line-up featuring djs from the hardcore scene (Liza N Eliaz, Armagued Nad, Manu le Malin, Micropoint, Radium, Joshua...), the Karnage nights took on a new dimension.

The Koalition Festival was born in 2005 and marked a turning point by offering a much more eclectic programme, bringing together all the components of the electronic music scene. With its varied line-up, the event gradually established itself as a benchmark. Some years, more than 8,000 electronic music fans turn out to see international djs as well as djs from the local scene, with several Toulouse-based groups invited to each session.

From 2011 onwards, the festival will run over 2 evenings, with 8 workshops and over 80 djs, vjs and performers.

The Karnage Records label continues to produce some of the biggest names on the hardcore scene, including Andy The Core, Splinter Cell, The Clamps, Igneon System and Hungry Beats, as well as releasing a number of podcasts.

2016 sees the start of Koalition exported: with editions in Paris, Girona and Bordeaux, Karnage is expanding to reach a new audience. In 2016, Bikini saw the return of the Lost Island evenings. In early 2017, the Inox Club, which had previously hosted
